In light of Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month [March], the Wolverhampton-based MC Akes has shared his latest captivating release,My Disability. With the aim to bring more awareness around the disorder, this message of strength unites those with disabilities who may struggle with their confidence and self-esteem. Empowering many up and down the nation, Akes is on a mission to diminish any stigmatization with this liberating release.

Reputable for his captivating storytelling ability, Akes draws from experience in this personal anecdote. Not one to shy away lyrically, his versatility has caught the attention of Complex UK, TRENCH and BBC Radio 1Xtra, as well as local hit-maker Preditah. Boasting an Instagram following of 100,000 supporters, “My Disability” is a heart-felt letter that unravels the obstacles Akes has faced over the years with his disorder. Reiterating his worth and strength in the chorus, “My disability won’t stop this ability. This is my story.“, he inspires those alike who have experienced similar encounters, pushing them to embrace their authentic-self.

Born 93, the Wolverhampton rapper has spent the past few years making his mark at both a local and national level, drumming up support from titans of the industry including BBC Radio 1Xtra, Complex UK and TRENCH as well as his hometown’s very own Express & Star magazine.

Renowned for his soul-baring approach to lyricism and his fearless ability to tackle myriad genres – encompassing hip-hop, grime, dancehall and beyond – Akes already boasts an expansive back catalogue, and has previously found collaborators in local hitmaker Preditah, ad-lib king Flirta D and members of trailblazing London crews including N.A.S.T.Y’s Nasty Jack and Roadside G’z affiliate Alan B, to name but a few.
