Acclaimed singer-songwriter Willow Avalon continues her milestone year with the brand new single, “Hey There, Dolly,” available now via Atlantic Records/Assemble Sound.
Written and recorded between Nashville and New York City’s famed Electric Lady Studio, “Hey There, Dolly” pays homage to Dolly Parton – a fitting response to recent applause for Avalon by Consequence for possessing a voice “reminiscent of Queen Dolly herself.”
The new track continues Avalon’s Country music success following her viral track “Gettin’ Rich, Goin’ Broke,” which was named a “country song you need to know” by Billboard, featured Spotify’s Indigo Playlist, Apple Music’s Country Roads Playlist, amassed nearly 2M streams, and arrived off the Georgia-born, NY-based artist’s debut EP, Stranger, available everywhere now.
Now boasting over 8M worldwide streams and close to 40K Shazams thus far, the breakthrough project also includes such hit singles as “Honey Ain’t No Sweeter“ and the smash title track, “Stranger,” the latter of which was hailed as “a sharply melancholic lament on connection that channels trans-generational trauma” by The Line of Best Fit and quickly proved the #1 Most Played song on SiriusXM’s The Spectrum, the #2 most played song on Hits1 Radio, along with rotation on Advanced Placement via Alt Nation and play by Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. Both “Stranger” and “Honey Ain’t No Sweeter” are joined by official live performance videos filmed at Electric Lady and streaming now at YouTube.

A rural Georgia native whose first word was “Elvis,” Willow Avalon grew up playing piano in church, taught herself guitar at age 12, and soon began writing songs as a form of escape and salvation. By age 14 she’d landed a gig opening for hometown heroes Drive-By Truckers in nearby Athens, a revelatory moment in her own journey as a musician. “I remember seeing how their music touched every single person in the room,” Avalon recalls, and I realized I wanted to do that too.”
Leaving home at 15 (and briefly living in her car), the 25-year-old singer-songwriter soon made her way to California where she self-released her first viral hit, “Drivin.” Named to Spotify’s “Best Indie Songs of 2022,” the track was quickly put into rotation on the hugely influential KCRW and met with immediate critical acclaim from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, which proclaimed, “Avalon channels a Steve Nicks-like songwriting prowess.”
Now based in New York City, Avalon balanced her songwriting and recording with frequent viral moments on TikTok and Instagram, now boasting over 500K followers across socials and over 80M views for such original shortform content as a hugely popular video in which she gave a tour of her Hell’s Kitchen apartment, showing off her now-departed pet possum Bowie (whom she often dressed in sweaters and cowboy hats) along with such thrifted treasures as a set of medical encyclopedias from the 1940s, a Stainer violin with a rattlesnake tail stuck inside, and the antique typewriter on which she writes many of her lyrics.
Summer 2023 saw Avalon share two exclusive reworks of “Drivin” – “Drivin (Feat. Runnner)” and “Drivin (Feat. Field Medic),” the latter accompanied by a dreamy music video starring Willow and Field Medic performing the song from the back of a car as it drives down a desert highway at golden hour (streaming HERE). This year now has seen Avalon breaking through with her refreshingly contemporary take on classic country sounds with indie and pop sensibilities, including a wide range of praise from such outlets as Billboard, Stereogum, American Songwriter, and Brooklyn Vegan, along with an increasingly eventful live schedule that has she her performing alongside Briston Maroney, lovelytheband, and others. In addition, Avalon is currently hard at work at Electric Lady Studios recording her hugely anticipated full length debut album, ensuring her extraordinary musical journey will continue long into what looks to be a very bright future.
