THE NATIONAL ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ‘ROME’ DUE OUT DECEMBER 13th

Today, The National announces ‘Rome‘, a 21-track album recorded live (without overdubs) on June 3, 2024 in the Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome. The album will be released on December 13, both digitally and on a double LP. The double album, mixed by their frequent collaborator Peter Katis, spans more than 20 years of the band’s songwriting and shows how each song takes on new life during live performance.

In addition, the band also released an EP today, titled ‘NTL RM EP I‘, featuring highlights from ‘Rome’: “I Need My Girl,” “Lemonworld,” “The Geese of Beverly Road” and “Lit Up.”

‘Rome‘ was shot in the architecturally stunning Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, named after the famous Italian film composer. The album features stunning versions of beloved songs such as “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” “Don’t Swallow the Cap,” “I Need My Girl,” “The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness,” “England” and “Fake Empire”; plus sharper takes on recent tracks like “Eucalyptus,” “New Order T-Shirt,” “Tropic Morning News” and the groundbreaking “Smoke Detector.”

Reflecting how the band significantly changes their setlists from night to night to shed new light on hidden gems from their catalog, ‘Rome’ is packed with rarities like show opener “Runaway,” “Lemonworld,” “The Geese of Beverly Road,” “Lit Up” and “Humiliation” from the album ‘Trouble Will Find Me’, followed by “Murder Me Rachael” from ‘Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers’.
