“Wilful experimentation with a sensual je ne sais quoi” – NME
“a powerhouse” – Wonderland
“we’re hooked” – Pigeons & Planes
“[spill tab] has become beloved among the Lorem and Pollen cool kids for her ability to add bite to bedroom pop or a beating heart to slick Euro-style club pop” – NYLON
spill tab shares a new single and visualiser ‘Window’ today, and announces her new EP due this May via Arista Records. ‘Window’ will join previous singles ‘CRÈME BRÛLÉE!,’ ‘Splinter’ and ‘Sunburn’ on the EP, which marks the third project from the French-Korean-American artist. As well as featuring on Matilda Mann’s single ‘Borderline Insane,’ currently spinning on the BBC Radio 1 playlist, spill tab is fresh from a SXSW showcase for Rolling Stone, and currently in the middle of an extensive US tour run as main support for Sabrina Carpenter.
With the upcoming EP, spill tab is set to further her status as one of alt-pop’s most innovative and fearless new names. The moniker of Claire – spill tab is a singer/songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, and producer who launched her musical career with her distinctive brand of bedroom-pop – meshing disparate feelings, sounds, tones, and textures and lyrics in both English and French.
Where previous cut ‘CRÈME BRÛLÉE!’ saw her idiosyncratic, chaotic alt-pop mastery take centre stage, ‘Window’ arrives as a counterbalance – coalescing in a textural indie rock burner. spill tab explains; “I was listening to a lot of Talking Heads around the time we started this song, so I think a bit of that influence is for sure in there. Mostly my producers Wyatt, Austin and I just had a good time crafting something that felt dynamic and ever changing. I love the idea of someone scrolling through the song and wondering how these different vibes exist together.”
The past 18 months have been a breakout period for spill tab, with the release of her previous EP Bonnie at its heart. Led by effusive, untethered lead single ‘PISTOLWHIP,’ the EP’s cast of collaborators includes Tommy Genesis (‘Indecisive’), JAWNY (‘Grade A’) and Gus Dapperton (‘Velcro’). This was indicative of the instant draw her music has drawn from contemporaries and beyond – culminating in a number of other co-signs including from Metronomy, who invited her to feature and co-produce their track ‘Uneasy’. As well as US tours with Gus Dapperton and JAWNY, plus a tour downunder supporting Wallows, spill tab has played headline shows in London, Paris and Sydney and made a big impression at The Great Escape 2022. Having amassed millions of streams and appearing on the cover for Spotify’s beloved Lorem playlist twice, she’s had further acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Paper, Pigeons & Planes, The FADER, NME, Hypebeast and was asked to perform in session for Saint Laurent, see here.
