Sofie Royer by Jasmin Baumgartner
Vienna-based, multidisciplinary artist Sofie Royer shares her new single “I Forget (I’m So Young),” which marks her first solo offering of 2024. “I Forget (I’m So Young)” is a song about “the transience of time and the ability to forget, and how that allows you to live a thousand different lives.”
Alongside the new song, Sofie shares the Jasmin Baumgartner-directed video, which follows Sofie coming home at an unknown hour, restless, and wanting to take something to fall asleep. When she opens her prescription bottle, she finds a small diamond amongst the tablets which she swallows, and soon falls headfirst into a lucid vision of a different world. The video’s dream sequences were filmed at Swarovski’s Crystal World in Tyrol, and feature sets designed by Brian Eno, Fernando Romero, Fredrikson Stallard. “I Forget (I’m So Young)” marks the first taste of a larger project to come from Sofie very soon.
Sofie Royer translates her interest in classical tradition into shimmering electro-pop songs. She channelled her love for French chanson into her 2020 debut, Cult Survivor, and looked to Viennese opera and ballet for 2022’s Harlequin. She guested on Lewis OfMan’s latest record Cristal Medium Blue, and on Toro Y Moi’s MAHAL in 2022, and has recently opened for Lana Del Rey, Air and LCD Soundsystem. Earlier this year, Royer released “Paris is burning,” a duet with Alexander Dexter Jones.
