Austrian-Iranian artist Sofie Royer enlists Alexander Dexter Jones for the new single “Paris is burning,” out now via Stones Throw. “Paris is burning” arrives with a video directed by Joseph Bird Jr. (Connan Mockasin, Alexander Savior), filmed next to Paris’ most iconic landmark and shows both artists traversing the city. “Paris is burning” is the first hint from Sofie’s forthcoming album out later this year on Stones Throw.
About the new song, Sofie shares, “Alexander Dexter Jones and I met through my management at Record Makers, Marc and César. We spent some Spring days on a song for his record in Paris at Melodium Studios, where I was super excited to play the original bass used on Air’s Moon Safari. We were eager to work together again. ‘Paris is burning’ was written in early June, whilst the trash-filled streets of Paris burned and rain tapped lightly against the window panes of the listening room at Record Makers. The room holds a wonderfully detuned piano at which we wrote the bare bones of the song in the span of an afternoon; just chords and lyrics penned on a piece of paper, ink staining my fingers, singing together.”
Sofie Royer’s latest album Harlequin was released in 2022 via Stones Throw and includes her hit song “Baker Miller Pink,” and followed her debut Cult Survivor from 2020. Sofie recently guested on Lewis OfMan’s new record Cristal Medium Blue. She joined OfMan for his European tour in February, and recently opened for Lana Del Rey.
Alexander Dexter Jones is a British-American singer-songwriter. He is working on his debut album with French label Record Makers.
Sofie is an original member of Boiler Room, she had a regular NTS Radio show for 7 years and was a Rinse FM France resident DJ. While working at Stones Throw for 4 years she curated Sofie’s SOS Tape for the label (2016), which featured her collaborations with Mndsgn including the song “Abeja”. Sofie previously featured on Toro Y Moi’s album MAHAL, opened for Lana Del Rey in Paris and has recently guested on Lewis OfMan’s new record Cristal Medium Blue, joining him for his European tour.
