AP Dhillon by PC Kaito

Shining as a leader in the Punjabi music scene, acclaimed singer, rapper, and producer AP Dhillon has signed to Republic Records in alliance with Universal Music Canada. Also, he unveiled his new single and video, which marks the first release under this newly minted partnership, “Old Money,” out now.

About the signing, REPUBLIC Founder and Chairman Monte Lipman commented, “AP Dhillon is not only an incredible artist who continues to defy gravity in real time, but a shrewd visionary with a global reach that has already sparked a cultural revolution. We’re thrilled to join forces with Universal Music Canada under the leadership of Chairman and C.E.O. Jeffrey Remedios to further extend AP’s impact and music around the world.”

AP Dhillon echoes his enthusiasm, “Republic Records always saw the vision. They got and understood who I am from day one. We’re all in harmony when it comes to this new music, and now I just can’t wait to show everybody what we’ve been cooking up.”

Old Money kicks off this chapter with a bang. It flaunts his versatile vocal delivery over a head-nodding beat punctuated by boisterous horns and cinematic strings. He drops rhymes in Punjabi as the momentum culminates in an instantly chantable chorus tailor-made to transcend any and all borders. Plus, he stepped behind the camera and personally helmed the accompanying music video. The visual nods to classic action flicks with its high octane momentum and nonstop thrills. Not to mention, it stars two Bollywood icons, namely Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt.

Of the single, AP Dhillon added, “‘Old Money’ is the perfect way for me to start my next era, especially with going big for the music video. I came up with a concept that was influenced by all my favourite action movies, and Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt showed up and killed it. I hope you love it as much as I do.”

ABOUT AP DHILLON:
AP Dhillon is a new leader in Punjabi music’s global takeover. The multi-hyphenate singer/artist/producer has become one of the biggest Indian artists today (over 5 billion streams worldwide) through pop, hip-hop and global influences. His 2020 song “Brown Munde” (translated to: “Brown Boys” in Punjabi) is an anthem symbolizing the universal struggle and reflects his own journey as an immigrant. Born in India, AP emigrated to Vancouver Island, Canada as a college student in 2015. He had to learn English and adapt to an entirely new culture on his own. It was here where he began the pursuit of creating records as he started to learn the craft of putting records together. He began his foray into music, learning how to produce through YouTube tutorials, while working at Best Buy. With a truly grassroots ethos, he independently began releasing music online in 2019. His melodic trap hit song “Brown Munde” became an anthem of success and struggle that resonated with Indians and the larger diaspora who had been waiting for a fresh sound in Punjabi music. Bolstered by a music video showcasing the life of working immigrants, the song amassed nearly 700M views on YouTube. The success of “Brown Munde” propelled AP’s international visibility and in 2021, he embarked on his first tour in India. He then took his show all over the world, including the UK, Dubai, and then in partnership with Live Nation in Canada and the US, he had nine sold-out dates and arena shows at Scotiabank Arena and Rogers Arena. He released a documentary AP Dhillon: First Of A Kind, which chronicled this experience, for Amazon Prime in 2023. That same year, he became the first Punjabi language artist to perform at the Juno Awards with his song “Summer High.”

AP Dhillon signed to Republic Records in 2024. “Old Money” will be released with an AP-directed music video starring Bollywood icons Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. AP Dhillon wants his new music to be a creative milestone for Punjabi music, proving how diverse and experimental the genre can be.
