PlayThatBoiZay connects with Texas rapper Mike Dimes for his new single and music video, “MOOD SWINGS,” via Loma Vista Recordings. The track was recently showcased on On The Radar’s The Mischievous Cypher, where Zay is joined by Denzel Curry, who raps along in the background and joins on the mic for a refrain leading out of the track. The Mischievous Cypher also included performances by FERG, TiaCorine, and Key Nyata.

The single delves into themes of losing control and is intensified by its accompanying music video, directed by fellow South Florida underground music luminary Twelve’len and Brian Wade. The video features glitchy, dark imagery that perfectly encapsulates the track’s ominous nature.

“MOOD SWINGS” follows his earlier single, “TEMPLE RUN,” inspired by the iconic early 2010s phone game. Accompanied by a video featuring Zay on his own “Temple Run” through a hectic Miami night, also directed by Twelve’len, the track showcases Zay’s raw, tenacious sound and highlights his experimental take on ‘90s Memphis rap– a style that originally earned him a dedicated fanbase and place in South Florida’s rap scene.

In 2018, Zay’s early SoundCloud tracks caught the attention of Lord Lu C N’s (a close friend and producer for Denzel Curry), and they started creating together. Lord Lu C N introduced Zay to Denzel, and from there, the two continued to build their newly founded creative relationship. This resulted in Zay’s feature on “P.A.T” from Curry’s critically acclaimed 2019 project ZUU and 2021 single “Bad Luck.” In 2022, Zay joined Curry on his fall North American tour, where he performed as an opener alongside AG Club and redveil. The following year Zay reunited with Curry and his longtime collaborator Ronny J to release “WOO,” an homage to the sound that became synonymous with 2010’s South Florida rap.
