PLAYTHATBOIZAY RELEASES NEW PROJECT VIP OUT NOW VIA LOMA VISTA RECORDS

FEATURING A$AP ROCKY, JPEGMAFIA, DENZEL CURRY, KENNY MASON, AND MIKE DIMES

SHARES MUSIC VIDEO “YOO” WITH JPEGMAFIA

Today, rising South Florida rapper PlayThatBoiZay releases his new project VIP via Loma Vista Recordings. The release arrives alongside a music video for “YOO” with JPEGMAFIA. The project started as a collaboration between Zay and UK producer Kwes Darko in 2020 but was put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic and then by Zay’s near-fatal car wreck in May 2021, which left him unable to walk and in a state of amnesia for months. After an extensive healing process, Zay returned to VIP with a fresh perspective, and now he’s back and ready to share the project with the world.

Across VIP, Zay’s powerfully gritty voice and ear for industrial, bass-heavy production create a singular and unpredictable sound, elevated by features from A$AP Rocky, Denzel Curry, JPEGMafia, Kenny Mason, and Mike Dimes. Zay’s lyrics center around the experience of being dumped by his then-girlfriend and subsequently targeted on social media. “I was frustrated, betrayed, and learned to use the microphone to let out those emotions,” the rapper recalls. With distorted beats and energetic bars, VIP paints a portrait of pain and hedonism, representing Zay’s most polished, introspective music yet.

VIP includes previously released singles “LIL JIT” featuring Kenny Mason, “MOOD SWINGS” with Mike Dimes, “TEMPLE RUN,” and “HOODLUMZ” with Denzel Curry and A$AP Rocky. PlayThatBoiZay originally debuted “MOOD SWINGS” on The Mischievous Cypher with On The Radar alongside frequent collaborator Denzel Curry. “HOODLUMZ” with Denzel Curry and A$AP Rocky appeared on Denzel’s highly praised album Kind of the Mischievous South Vol. 2, released last month, and was recently performed by Denzel and Zay in a special BBC session in London. Buoyed by the success of the track, Zay gained over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

PlayThatBoiZay was first encouraged to rap by his Carol City High School classmate Denzel Curry in 2015. Zay was working at The Cheesecake Factory his senior year when a chance run-in with Curry, who was on a date at the restaurant, marked the start of their lasting creative relationship. Zay was featured on “P.A.T” from Curry’s critically acclaimed 2019 project ZUU and 2021 single “Bad Luck.” In 2022, Zay joined Curry on his fall North American tour, where he performed as an opener alongside AG Club and redveil. The following year Zay reunited with Curry and his longtime collaborator Ronny J to release “WOO,” an homage to the sound that became synonymous with 2010’s South Florida rap. Denzel recently praised Zay in a recent interview on The Ebro Show and shared more about their unexpected encounter back in 2015. Zay has joined Denzel on his current Grey Day Tour which will make stops in Los Angeles at Crypto Arena, Newark at Prudential Center, Boston at TD Garden and more. Following the tour, Zay will be performing at Rolling Loud Miami in December.
