Oklou by Gil Gharbi
“HARVEST SKY” FEATURING UNDERSCORES & “OBVIOUS” OUT NOW VIA TRUE PANTHER
ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN TOUR DATES FOR EARLY 2025
French vocalist, producer and composer Oklou shares two new singles “harvest sky,” featuring Bay Area artist underscores, and a sensuous companion, “obvious.” The new songs follow recently released single “family and friends,” which came alongside a Gil Gharbi directed music video, and is the second drop since her highly celebrated full-length mixtape galore.
“harvest sky” begins with a striking filtered trance-melody, ultimately unfurling into a rhythmic big room anthem. underscores shares about the collaboration, “Oklou has become one of my favorite artists over the past few years, so I was ecstatic when she asked me to be a part of ‘harvest sky.’ The synth line in this song is generational.” Danny L Harle (Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX) and Nick Leon (Erika De Casier, Empress Of) added production elements to oklou’s characteristically restrained and spacious ambience.
Speaking about the new singles Oklou shares, “‘harvest sky’ is probably my third attempt to talk about a thing that happens at times during festivities; zoom out from the crowd and enter a lonely mental space. ‘obvious’ has got many names in the past, but I love this one cause this track feels very close to what defines a special tone in my music, in a core-ish way. It also talks about something dear to my heart: music vs words.”
Alongside the new music, Oklou is announcing a string of North American and European tour dates for February and March of 2025. The tour begins in Europe with stops including Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and London and then continues on to North America with dates in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Tickets go on sale Oct 18th here and you can find full tour routing below.
Born Marylou Mayniel in the countryside of Western France, Oklou’s first musical experiences consisted of classical piano and cello lessons before she fell in love with electronic music and took up production. Mayniel eventually moved to Paris, where she hosted weekly radio shows and performed her first live shows as Oklou. After two EPs, 2017’s For The Beasts and 2018’s The Rite Of May, Mayniel received international acclaim, accelerated through collaborations with Mura Masa, A. G. Cook and EASYFUN (the last two both producers of Charli XCX’s Brat) and culminating in her full-length mixtape galore in 2020. It was a turning point in her artistic life, heralded as an innovative and introspective work by fans and media, with Dazed praising as “sophisticated in its composition yet totally cutting edge in its sound.” International touring followed, including support tours with Oneohtrix Point Never and Caroline Polachek as well as a much-heralded feature with Flume.
