DIY dream pop trio Night Tapes continue to build buzz for their upcoming summer EP with their starry-eyed new single ‘projections’, out now on Nettwerk Music Group.
The penultimate single from the band’s assisted memories EP dropping on June 7th, ‘projections’ is an upbeat, disco-tempo tune against a backdrop of 80s synth textures. Helmed by a quintessentially tight Night Tapes rhythm section, lead singer Iiris Vesik’s acrobatic melodies soar above, “dancing with projections” on an unforgettable chorus.
“Sometimes you find in yourself, what you seek in others”, Iiris says, speaking about the track’s themes of perception and authenticity. “Fascination always includes a projection, but it could be just a word to undermine other people’s emotional realities. If you’re in love with someone and you call it a projection, then you just take all the fun out of it as you’re undermining the feeling of participating in the relationship.”
2024 is shaping up to be the trio’s biggest year yet, with their Spotify following growing by over 50% to nearly 30k, over two millions streams for late 2023 single ‘drifting’ as well as support from BBC Radio 1, and monthly listeners peaking at over half a million with 1.7m streams.
Night Tapes started out as evening jams between housemates Max Doohan, Sam Richards and Iiris Vesik in London. Night time London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope-pushing dream pop. The trio take inspiration from both their lived experience in the world that they can see and touch, as well as the less tangible spiritual and metaphysical realm.
To date, the band have released three EPs: Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo and Download Spirit, and Perfect Kindness, which was released to acclaim via Nettwerk Music Group last summer. Their debut single ‘Forever’ has reached over seven million plays, and their music has been championed by Turtlenek, Paste Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, DUMMY Magazine, At The Barrier, David Dean Burkhart and Majestic Casual channels.
‘projections’ is another otherworldly Night Tapes single as the star-gazing South Londoners prepare their next EP.
