Watch a new compilation of never-before-seen video footage from the last year HERE to celebrate the album’s release. The North American tour in promotion of CHARLOTTE – with support from Kacy Hill and Clip – is currently underway, with new European dates for December recently added. All tickets can be found HERE for purchase.

With the wages of sin and temptation on its mind, “It’s Gonna’ Cost You,” the focus track off CHARLOTTE, is a true stand-out moment, a feverish funk examination about the toll ambition takes. It features some of Fish’s most awesome falsetto shouting, as he quips that he’ll be the “greatest that you’ve ever seen.” It’s profane and sacred, ending with a meditative moment of organ playing.

CHARLOTTE Tracklist
1. Amor
2. Who Did You Touch?
3. Do You Remember?
4. You Changed on Me
5. SCREAM MY NAME
6. Is it a Crime?
7. God or The Devil?
8. What’s It Take to Be a Star?
9. It’s Gonna’ Cost You
10. Heaven

CHARLOTTE, produced closely with co-collaborator Jacob Portrait (of Unknown Mortal Orchestra), is a raw collection of songs that explore the highs and lows of love, ambition, and self-actualization. It probes deep into themes of memory, attachment, loss, and growth, and the psychology behind all of these human experiences. While Montell wrote the record, the continuation of the trilogy that began with Jamie (2022), Fish read about psychology, memory, and childhood; the ideas of Freud and Jung provided thoughtful stimulation as he crafted songs that explore growth and attachment—romantic and otherwise. Through lyrics relating to love, power, failure, and success – all universal to the human experience– Montell uses these themes to highlight the same feelings and situations he’s experienced since the formulation of Jamie, in regards to his own struggle with leaving his faith, and learning to lose and move on from those who were a part of that old audience, team and online fan base.

On the new album, Montell had the following to say: “The second chapter of the JCM Trilogy, the chaos after peace. My goal was to make an art piece inspired by Theological Ideas through the lens of a breakup with a slight to psychological concepts for answers. A sonic evolution.”

CHARLOTTE is a project which saw development across continents, with roots in both New York and Paris, specifically with Paris sessions taking place in acclaimed fashion designer Matthew Williams’ home studio. CHARLOTTE is Montell’s most fully realized project yet, the sound of a generational talent stepping into his power.

The CHARLOTTE tour is currently seeing Montell play his biggest venues to date, performing for his legion of fans across the country alongside Kacy Hill and Clip. The 20+ city trek has been hitting major markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto, and Nashville with stops at iconic venues such as The Fonda Theatre, Brooklyn Steel, and House of Blues. Achieving Platinum statuses with“Fall in Love with You” and “Hotel”, as well as 3 Gold singles within Canada, Montellwill also be stopping in Canada with Toronto and Vancouver dates. About Montell Fish:
Across albums, EPs, and side projects, singer-songwriter Montell Fish has plumbed the depths of his emotions and intellect. With each release, he’s constructed further a layered tower of references and metaphors that shakes and sways with the anxieties of a gifted young person straining to reconcile the contradictions of the world: in love, in religion, in art, and in faith. It’s the kind of music that inspires intense feelings and fandom. On his latest album CHARLOTTE, the follow-up to his 2022 breakout album Jamie, Fish loves thinking about life’s big questions: how does childhood shape a person? What does it mean to have a gift the world wants access to? Raised in a strictly religious household and now out in the world on his own making his art, Fish has a boundaryless curiosity about ways of living and creating.
