With her latest foray into the realm of dance music, Marla Kether paints a vivid, ever-moving sonic scene of pure artistic alchemy; the very musical embodiment of her remix’s elemental namesake: ‘Fire’. From start to finish—though thoroughly capable of singlehandedly soundtracking a rave on loop—‘Fire’ evokes the rhythmic essence of a flame, swaying and snapping gracefully to the whimsical beat of the wind, captivating listeners in a state of pure, primal possession.

Kether’s impressive artistic versatility, expansive appreciation for traditional musical roots, and sharp contemporary instincts combine in a perfect storm of creativity, transporting her listeners to a sacred space in the human soul that is both primordial and modern. Kether’s twist on London trio INTERVENTION’s debut single, ‘Fire’, places us in front of that communal flame where music and dance first collided, stoking it with fresh invigoration.

The track’s mesmerizing opening idioglossic vocals— the foundation of its universal primal vibe—blend seamlessly with subtle splashes of Afrofuturist, Caribbean, and Samba elements across a contemporary dance landscape, resulting in a tight, microcosmic cocktail of Kether’s multifaceted genius.

For most of her career, Marla Kether has been widely praised as a highly accomplished session bassist, having performed with Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome, and Obongjayar – with tracks reaching over 36 million streams on Spotify. In 2020, Kether decided to branch out into DJing and producing her own material. Her much anticipated 2023 debut EP All That We Have,  featuring tracks like  ‘In My Corner‘ , ‘All That We Have’, and ‘BTR2’ showcased her diverse stylistic range and promise as a solo artist – with ‘BTR’ earning DJ Mag’s Top Tracks of 2023.

Marla Kether’s talent for identifying the essence of a musical culture, her keen ear for both expected and unexpected musical compatibilities, and her masterful ability to fuse these elements at their roots place her in a unique position as an ambassador of world music within the realm of electronic dance music.

Luckily, fans won’t have to wait long to see what else mixer-producer Marla has up her sleeve. Kether’s ‘Fire’ remix is just the first of several explorative tracks the proficient artist-producer plans to drop this year. Plans to release compilations by Toy Tonics and Somewhere Soul are on 2025’s horizon. She has already secured bookings for Cross The Tracks, The Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, and Brick Lane Jazz Festival for 2025. She’ll also be joining Little Simz on her upcoming world tour, following a stellar performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage.
