Lunice releases his second album, OPEN, out everywhere via LuckyMe. The acclaimed Montreal producer and 1/2 of TNGHT with Hudson Mohawke has already dropped high energy singles “No Commas” feat. Cali Carter and “Last Time” feat. Zach Zoya, which have been met with critical praise from the likes of Pitchfork, The Fader, Resident Advisor, Stereogum, Consequence and more.
Lunice approached OPEN with a desire to embrace spontaneity in the creative process — intuition, instinct, receptiveness, flexibility and adaptation –– his latest project is the end result of a conscious effort to practice these traits. The first track, “YAYAYA” feat. Stargate, welcomes listeners in and from there, Lunice does not shy away from taking on new forms. On his second track, “Last Time” feat. Zach Zoya, the Montreal rapper reflects on how his spontaneous lifestyle has never created roadblocks. Throughout the album, Lunice collaborated with artists from his hometown giving listeners a wild and unexpected ride through the Montreal underground.
It has been 6 years since Lunice’s debut CCCLX. In the time since, he has released numerous singles, remixes and contributed to video game and movie soundtracks as well as consistently touring his legendary live show which pairs in-your-face hip hop with menacing electronic beats. For OPEN he has concentrated on making a more dynamic album than its predecessor – every track made with the intention of translating to the live experience. The collaborators on this album –– Cali Cartier, Zach Zoya, Yuki Dreams Again, DAGr, Jay Centrury, Stargate and Grammy-winning producer DRTWRK (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Joyner Lucas, Denzel Curry etc) –– are a showcase of dynamic new rappers and young producers who all match Lunice’s energy as he takes you on a bizarre ride through the Montreal underground.
About Lunice:
Lunice is a Canadian musician and performing artist known for his energetic and innovative style of hip hop and electronic music. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Lunice began his career as a DJ and producer, and quickly gained recognition for his unique sound and dynamic stage presence.
In 2011, Lunice joined the music collective and record label LuckyMe with fellow artists Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. The label became known for its forward-thinking approach to electronic music, and Lunice was a key member of the LuckyMe family, producing and performing on many of the label’s releases.
In addition to his work with LuckyMe, Lunice has also collaborated with a number of other artists, including Kanye West, Skrillex, and Azealia Banks. He has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Glastonbury.
