Jasmine Jethwa’s journey into singing begins in a melting pot of Western and Indian culture, influenced by the personal stories of her time growing up in London coupled with a mesmerising, natural command for melody and harmonies. Having won the support of BBC Radio 1 and DSP’s across the board with her ethereal vocals and South-London wit and charm, and having sold out her first two headline shows in London months in advance – her debut at St. Pancras Old Church and her show at Omeara, Wednesday, April 12th – Jasmine is en route to becoming one of the most exciting breakout stars of 2023.

As she’s announced as Spotify’s RADAR First Listen Artist, Jasmine shares her brand new EP Same Streets But I Don’t See You Around. With lyrics that read like poetry the 24-year-old singer-songwriter invites listeners to lean into a profound depth of feeling on her latest project. Featuring a collection of songs that reflect on the growing chapters of a past relationship, from the initial infatuation (‘Golden’), the battle of confused emotions (‘Money To Burn’), falling out of love (‘Have I Ever Been’) and to finally finding closure (‘Blue Stripes’). The EP’s title is taken from the lyrics of lead single ‘Don’t See You Around’, another powerful folk-pop track with Jasmine’s inimitable vocals cutting straight to the heart.

Kicking off a round of live shows this spring with her sold-out headline show at Omeara, Jasmine will go on to perform at Radio 1’s Sian Eleri’s showcase and support the likes of Rachel Chinouriri and Phoria before stopping by Brighton to perform at The Great Escape Festival on May 12th.

Born and raised in South London, Jasmine wasn’t always set on being a musician. As a child, Jasmine used to visit her Grandad who worked his way up from humble beginnings in North Shields to becoming a successful scenic painter, creating backdrops and sets for countless theatre shows, and Ballets across London and the world. After watching these performances of sinuous dancers in front of a backdrop of beautiful scenery, Jasmine fell head over heels for dance. She decided to focus solely on it, even going on to study dance full time at college until she fell more in love with music and writing her own songs after hearing the live rehearsals across her school hallway and wishing she was there instead. From there Jasmine’s transformation into a musician began.

With little musical experience, she played around with the limited amount of chords she knew on an old keyboard, but once Jasmine got going it felt destined to be. With sonic influences that range from John Denver & Bon Iver, R&B icon Brandy to Fontaines D.C. and the Hindi songs from Bollywood films Jasmine watched growing up with her Gujarati grandmother – a flurry of gorgeous, intricate songs came rushing out of her as if she’d finally found an outlet for something she’d been storing inside all her life. The dance world’s loss is music’s gain.

Now two years later and recently signed to the independent label, Akira Records, Jasmine has had the time to dive deeper into her sound and vision during a time of heartbreak, loss and healing.
