Kevin Abstract announces his forthcoming third studio album, Blanket, for release on November 3rd via Video Store/RCA Records. The announcement arrives with another cinematic clip called “GUM” that previews a taste of new music on the heels of the album’s title track that was shared just last week, as well as the intimate shows he recently performed in New York City and Los Angeles.
The new album, which is now available for pre-order, was made over a 3-month span in early 2023 mostly alongside Kevin’s longtime collaborator and producer Romil Hemnani in addition to multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham (Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red). The creation process was a collaborative one, with Abstract and his production team involving young screenwriters and veteran songwriters alike.
As “Blanket” indicated, Abstract is pulling from wide range of influences and notably pulling from the world of rock significantly more than his past work has. “I wanted to make, like, a Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, Modest Mouse type of record,” Kevin says. “But I wanted it to hit like a rap album.”
