Today, Faroese soulful singer-songwriter jazzygold is proud to release “homerun”, a new, heartfelt single that honours her identity. Hailing from the Faroe Islands with roots in Kenya, jazzygold invites the listener on a journey through her childhood and personal history with this new soul-pop track, out today via the local imprint Tutl Records. Together with the single, she’s releasing a video directed and edited by multi-disciplinary artist Dania O. Tausen.
“homerun“ is a deeply personal track that reflects her experience growing up in a predominantly white neighbourhood, where she often questioned her identity as a brown girl with curly hair. This song is both a love letter to her family and an exploration of the challenges she faced, balancing two cultures in her household and coping with a distant father. jazzygold honours her siblings and especially her mother, who tirelessly mended the broken pieces over the years.
When opening up about the song, jazzygold stated “homerun is a song I’ve wanted to write forever, but I never felt ready to share my personal story until now. After creating this beautiful song, I’ve never been more ready to reveal these layers in front of everyone.”
The music video is a journey back home. The video was filmed in her first childhood home and features her older brother and sister, who played a significant role in her upbringing and are also mentioned in the song. As they revisit the spaces that shaped their early years, the video captures the warmth, love, and complexities of growing up in a mixed-culture household. “homerun” is more than a song; it’s a visual tribute to the strength of family and the journey of self-discovery. As a woman of color from the Faroe Islands, jazzygold embarked on this project to provide a mirror for young girls like her, both in her country and around the world. Growing up, she lacked role models who looked like her in the music industry. Now, she’s determined to be that beacon of inspiration, proving that no matter where you come from, you can achieve greatness.
Since announcing her project in January 2023, jazzygold has been unstoppable. She debuted at the Trondheim Calling showcase festival in Norway just a month later and has since performed at numerous prestigious events. Highlights of her whirlwind year include The Great Escape in England, Iceland Airwaves, Eurosonic in The Netherlands, and the upcoming Waves Vienna in September. She also graced the stages of The G! Festival in the Faroe Islands and Moldejazz in Norway.
With four powerful singles released in 2023, jazzygold is poised to elevate her career even further. As she gears up for 2024 and 2025, fans can anticipate the release of two new singles later this year, followed by a third single and her highly anticipated EP in early 2025.
