ALONGSIDE THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF HER DEBUT EP
“LISTEN TO THIS WHEN WE BUY A HOUSE”
28TH MARCH VIA AMF RECORDS
22-year-old Midlands-raised Josie Oliver is proving herself as one of the UK’s most compelling new indie-pop voices. Since her debut single “glued” in 2023, she has quietly built a loyal audience, garnering over 500,000 streams across four further singles while steering clear of fleeting viral moments. Instead, Josie is carving her own path—one defined by meticulous songwriting, evocative storytelling, and a growing reputation for heartfelt live performances. Now, she returns with her latest single, “Standstill,” a poignant reflection on the fleeting nature of relationships and the desire to hold onto a moment before it slips away.
“Standstill is about longing to stay in the present with someone before it ends and the bittersweet feeling knowing moments can’t last forever,” Josie explains. “I wrote it about that feeling of knowing you should let go but wanting so badly to just stop in time and savour it. Over time, the meaning of the song has evolved for me—originally, I saw it as a shy love song, but now the lyrics feel sadder. I think it’s cool that even my own songs can change in meaning, and I guess it’s up to the listener to interpret it in their own way.”
With shimmering guitar melodies, immersive soundscapes, and deeply confessional lyrics, Josie Oliver’s music has resonated with a growing audience, including personal co-signs from Sam Fender and Griff who found their own love in Josie’s music. BBC Introducing has been a consistent champion, supporting across regional and national shows, while Radio 1’s ‘Future Pop’ and Triple J have also taken notice. Her music has landed coveted placements on Spotify editorial playlists, including ‘New Music Friday UK,’ ‘Fresh Finds UK & IE,’ ‘Our Generation,’ ‘New Pop UK,’ , with single “Tomorrow” being recently synced on hit UK show Made in Chelsea.
Beyond streaming success, Josie has built an impressive live portfolio, reinforcing her reputation as a true musician’s musician. She was selected as one of the top songwriters of her year at LIPA, earning the rare opportunity to perform one on one for Beatles legend Paul McCartney. Her live journey has since taken her to venues across the UK, supporting artists such as Alessi Rose, Lizzie Esau, Eden Rain, Arctic Lake, and Michael Aldag, while also taking the stage for BBC Introducing Live at The Lexington and Abbie McCarthy’s Future Karma series at Camden Assembly. Just last year alone, she performed at Neighbourhood Festival, the LIPA Showcase at The Cavern in Liverpool, the 2ube Xtra at the Paul McCartney Auditorium, an incredible 6 support slots, all organically driven by the credibility of her music and personal pursuit to musical success.
In a time when many artists chase viral fame, Josie Oliver stands apart—crafting a career built on artistic integrity, stellar songwriting, and undeniable live presence. With “Standstill,” she solidifies her position as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.
