“She makes feel-good music.” – ROLLING STONE

“If you listen to FAVE talk long enough, it’s easy to believe that the 21-year-old Nigerian singer was somehow destined to be a musician.” – OKAYAFRICA

There’s a new it girl on the Afrofusion scene and her name is FAVE. With a legal name like Godsfavour, of course you’re destined for greatness. The songstress has blessed us with a new single, “Controlla.” The fun, upbeat record feels reminiscent of a proper girls’ night out and a strong contender for ‘song of the summer.’

Controlla” was preceded by the official visual release for the song that kicked off FAVE’s 2024, “Belong To You.” The visual also arrived on the heels of Fave’s feature on Afrobeats superstar Davido’s “Kante” single along with the accompanying visual that was released last week. Prior to the visual release, FAVE joined Davido and made her debut at New York’s Madison Square Garden to perform her verse on “Kante.” Stay tuned for more new music from this rising songstress.

Though FAVE is in the early days of her career, she’s set the tone already for her future success. In 2022, Fave was recognized as one of the BET x Nissan Afrobeats Up Next stars, Spotify’s Equal Africa Ambassador for March, Apple Music’s ‘One’s To Watch,’ and one of ten ‘African Artists to Watch Out For’ on Audiomack. She was also highlighted that year by snagging the coveted ‘Rookie of the Year’ award at the prestigious Headies. FAVE has also been featured on records with her peers like Olamide’s “Want” and “Pon Pon” and Simi’s “Loyal.” Her feature on Davido’s “Kante” single was also a top 10 most streamed song in Nigeria via Spotify in 2023.  The emerging songstress has proved to be a sought-after collaborator and in this next era, she will show how she shines all on her own.

ABOUT FAVE

From soul-baring lyrics to her hypnotic vocals, Fave’s minute-long Twitter videos took the Afrofusion community by storm in the early days of covid lockdown. A star was undeniably born. As a middle child and only daughter of the Chidozies—a small family of 5 who resided in eastern and southwestern Nigeria over the last two decades, her musical experience began at the church at the tender age of 6. Just before internet fame in 2020, Fave (coined from “Godsfavour”) was just a 19-year-old singer-songwriter pursuing a Law degree—belted with only one released single “M.O.M.M.S”. Fave would go on to release one of the biggest records of her career thus far, “Baby Riddim” in 2021. It eventually became the #1 song in Nigeria on Turntable Chart making it the second entry by a lead female artist to reach #1. Although her career has seen her dabble around genres including Dancehall, Afropop, Afrobeats, Dance, and R&B, Fave largely considers herself a “pop” girl. Her unique poetic approach to writing prioritizes vulnerability accompanied by vivid plots, conveying a whirlwind of emotions, often on groovy beat drops or high-tempo drum progressions. The soul-stirring songstress is just getting started as she begins her rise to the pinnacles of stardom.
