IN THE LEAD UP TO FORTHCOMING ALBUM ‘DARKROOM’
“Her music has a weightless quality, something that transcends the ephemeral to grapple with key facets of our lives” – CLASH
“The Quebecois singer and songwriter’s ethereal voice transports us to another world through her enchanting tone and lyrics”- Metal Mag
Laced with significance and power, Dream-pop sensation Ghostly Kisses have shared their latest hypnotic release, “Crimson” in the lead up to their highly anticipated album, ‘Darkroom’, set for release on May 17th, 2024. Coming after the ethereal anthem “Keep It Real”, and the announcement of their forthcoming headline tour across the UK, EU, and North America, Ghostly Kisses unfasten a compelling single layered with substance.
Well-known for their enchanting slices of heaven, Ghostly Kisses called upon celebrated producer Oli Bayton (reputable for his work alongside Rachel Chinouriri, Olivia Dean, Barry Can’t Swim, and Yuné Pinku) for another unblemished display of other-worldly art. With Margaux Sauvé’s captivating vocals sitting at the forefront of the release, “Crimson” delves into themes of individual rights and freedom, a message which holds momentous weight in today’s world. Held together with a percussive dreamscape speckled with orchestral elements, we are greeted with further glimpses of the upcoming album.
When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Margaux Sauvé, lead vocalist of Ghostly Kisses explained, ”Crimson holds a special place for us within Darkroom, primarily due to the emotional depth of the themes it explores. Through the Box of Secrets, we received numerous revealing confessions of homosexuality, and the challenges individuals face in expressing or living their love due to familial or societal constraints. Crimson aims to be a broader reflection and claim on individual rights and freedom, also echoing events such as the tragic death of Mahsa Amini and the Iranian protest movement for women’s freedom.”
“I know it’s not us, I know it’s not us, I know it’s not us to flee and hush
I know it’s not us, I know it’s not us, they bruise they crush, they kill the love instead”
Margaux Sauvé went on to share, “This passage vividly captures the intensity of their emotions – the profound anger, the deep-seated pain, and an unwavering resolve to persist in the fight for their rights and freedoms. Being the most lyrically intense song of the album, we wanted to couple that with the most intense musical production as well. The verses are sung by one voice, but as the message comes “I know it’s not us”, it’s progressively joined by more and more voices as a metaphor of how a movement starts. Through Crimson, we hope to offer a powerful medium to amplify the voices of those who are silenced.”
Formed by Margaux Sauvé and Louis-Étienne Santais, the creative duo behind Ghostly Kisses, have pieced together an enigmatic world that’s loved by many worldwide. Often showcasing their vulnerability, as shown through the “Box of Secrets” initiative, Ghostly Kisses have earned support from the likes of Clash Magazine, Wonderland, Billboard, Paste, Pitchfork, 10 Magazine, Metal Mag, as well as supporting Ry X, Men I Trust, and Lord Huron on tour.
Recently announcing their headline tour across the UK, EU and North America which is swiftly selling out, the previous release “Keep It Real” was played on Flux FM in Germany, a hot-spot for tour tickets. Not to mention, stand-out single “On & Off” recently hit Spotify’s Viral 50 in Saudi at number 10, further solidifying the band’s status as an unbreakable force.
As the excitement for their ‘Darkroom’ album increases, supporters can expect a body of work that continues to push Ghostly Kisses’ boundaries, both sonically and lyrically. Capturing the human experience as we see it today, ‘Darkroom’ explores the intricacies of life, unveiling a body of work that’s bound to transport you to another world. Blending that feeling of escape with reality, this enchanting album streamlines an authentic connection with their supporters, whilst leaving time for self-discovery. Ghostly Kisses have more in store for fans including a string quartet live session that’ll leave you mesmerized.
