GHANAIAN HITMAKER QUAMINA MP DISCUSSES HIS NEW ALBUM, THE JOURNEY AND WHAT’S NEXT!

We’re here with Quamina MP, the Ghanaian hitmaker known for his bubbling energy and genre-blending sound. With three EPs, classic singles, and collaborations under his belt, he’s back in the spotlight with his highly anticipated debut album, “Love in the Club”.

Let’s get into the music, the journey, and what’s next!

Q: Congratulations on your debut album, Love in the Club! This is a major milestone for you. Was there a particular theme or source of inspiration you wanted to capture for this album?

Hi Phoebe, thank you. My inspiration for “Love in the Club” was to give an experiential account of the myth that true love can’t be found in a nightclub. As someone who enjoys partying, I’ve had experiences where I thought I’d found love, only to realize it was just the alcohol talking. But one time, I met a girl at a club, and my feelings for her never changed.

Q: If you had to describe the album to fans using only 3 words, what would they be?

The themes of my album are love, partying, and happiness.

Q: Let’s take it back to the start. Growing up in Mankessim, how did your upbringing and environment shape your musical style and career choices?

Music has always been a part of my life. My dad played music at home, and I was an organist at church. These experiences greatly influenced my decision to pursue a music career. I started experimenting with beats and production in junior high school and began rapping in high school.

Q: Since rising to global fame in 2018, you have consistently pushed an infectious blend of Afrobeats, Highlife, and Hip-hop influences. How did you approach genre fusion on Love in the Club, and were there any new styles you experimented with?

I enjoy experimenting with different genres. On “Love in the Club,” I showcased my range by incorporating various styles, including rap, hiplife, highlife, afrobeats, amapiano, and more.

Q: You had a major hand in shaping the sound of this album, producing 9 tracks yourself. Do you think your production skills give you an edge over artists who don’t produce their own music?

I think being a producer and artist is a superpower. Many artists are now learning production, which is great to see.

Q: The album includes an exciting lineup of artists like Stonebwoy, Twitch 4EVA, YCEE, and AratheJay. How did you decide who to feature? Was there a particular collaboration that pushed you out of your comfort zone in an unexpected way?

I featured artists I’ve worked with before because I know their sounds and what songs they’d excel on. While they didn’t push me out of my comfort zone, I challenge myself daily to improve. Look out for my upcoming reggae and rock music!

Q: You’ve said this album will take your music to the “ends of the world.” If you could collaborate with any international artist to push your sound even further, who would it be and why?

I can feel the love for my album, and I believe it has the potential to go global. My dream collaborations would be with Drake, Rihanna, and Kendrick Lamar – they’re my favorites.

Q: Now that Love in the Club is out, what’s next for you? Are there plans for a tour, visuals, or any surprises fans should look forward to?

We’re taking “Love in the Club” worldwide. After our release party in Accra, we’re currently on a US tour, with stops in Atlanta, New York, DC, and Charlotte. We’ll be doing activations globally, including Europe and Canada. Summer will see us in Amsterdam and possibly Canada for shows and promotions. It’s an all-year project, with a deluxe version and more music on the way. We have at least two visuals in the works, so fans can expect some surprises. Thank you, Phoebe, for having me. Spread the love in Holland!
