Aminé returns to share his first single of 2025 “Familiar.” Following a string of singles released in late 2024, this latest offering is the first glimpse into his forthcoming album, which is due this spring via 10K Projects. “Familiar” sees Aminé building off of the buoyant verve from which he has built his career with a subtle nod to his critically acclaimed collaborative album KAYTRAMINÉ’s disco-soul foundations, all of which is balanced with a careful examination of a failed relationship. The single arrives alongside a music video that features heavy references to Aminé’s Ethiopian-Eritrean heritage, a hint to the album’s broader narrative.
Speaking on the single he shares, “You love somebody while knowing that it’s not the right thing to do, but it’s still hard to let go. I let a little bit of my toxic side onto the track, too, but I think that honesty is important.”
While refraining from releasing a full body of work, Aminé stayed busy in 2024. Last summer, he shared his remix of Charli xcx’s “360” and launched the inaugural edition of his hometown festival The Best Day Ever which featured performances by KAYTRANADA, Toro y Moi, Ravyn Lenae, BADBADNOTGOOD, Karrahbooo and more. In November of 2024, Aminé released his second signature shoe with New Balance, the BTEE740, which pays homage to his Portland high school Benson Tech in addition to the previously mentioned singles.
