Guillaume and Jonathan Aldric, cousins who together make up The Blaze, have made a career of pairing moving image with music to great emotional effect and in their latest turn at directing have taken album track “MADLY” and reinvented it as a 6 minute epic demonstrating the transformative power of live music, or more specifically, the rave.
Having previously won the Film Craft Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Best Director at the Berlin Music Video Awards, and the Best International Dance Video UK MVA for previous music videos, The Blaze continue to execute at the highest level with their latest masterclass of a music video.
More so than any of their previous works, The Blaze’s latest album, JUNGLE, was inspired by their experiences performing to live audiences. Yet while they set out to create songs that would better translate to that setting, they managed to retain the introspective elements of their music that separate them from their peers. The result is an electronic album carried by visuals and melodies drunk on emotions. Perhaps nowhere on the album is this more apparent than in the propulsive euphoria of “MADLY”. JUNGLE also features singles such as “CLASH,” “EYES,” and “DREAMER,” the latter of which earned praise from the New York Times describing it as “an alluring, dreamlike, lightly funky and lightly shimmering ode to spiritual seeking that comes with another of the group’s signature operatic videos that interrogate masculinity, community, isolation and love.”
The duo are in the midst of a massive run of shows which has seen them tour across Europe this Spring, perform at Coachella, New York City, and now continue with a packed summer of festivals before returning to North America for additional shows in September.
