What’s been a monumental year for the self-proclaimed “dysfunctional pop” newcomer montykeates, is being closed out with the highly anticipated release of his debut EP, ‘DIGITAL LOVE CLUB’. Gaining recognition from META as one of their Artist’s to Watch for 2024, montykeates has shared a string of trailblazing releases earning him a cult-like fanbase and social media following of over 1.2 million fans who are eagerly awaiting his next release.
Welcoming the EP with the electrifying anthem “WORTH LESS”, montykeates explores the nuances of modern-day dating. Expressing feelings of frustration and disappointment, it’s often found we have a tendency to let issues slide that aren’t a true representation of our worth but ironically, can be difficult to call quits. Speaking on behalf of an entire generation, his candid lyricism and unique vocals sit centre stage. Swiftly moving into “RED LOVE HEART FOREVER”, a high-energy love song that highlights the benefits of the digital age and the development of technology. montykeates, a product of Gen-Z, details the endless scrolling of videos, texting friends, feeding into algorithms, and double tapping on cute photos – emphasising the intimate relationship between us and our phones. Those never-ending doom scrolling sessions can often lead into a sudden desire to make a change, “WHAT MY LIFE IS” is the light at the end of the tunnel; a celebration of achievements. Wanting to turn his life around montykeates went against the odds, became sober and pursued his passion for music creating a life that he’s forever grateful for. Closing out the EP with “EASY”, the trailblazer opens the door to freedom, waving goodbye to the unnecessary baggage. Creating a cohesive and dynamic body of work with his unconventional artistry, montykeates solidifies his one-to-watch status.
When asked about the inspiration behind the EP montykeates explained,“’Digital Love Club’ is my first EP, this project is something I’m really proud of. It speaks on a big journey of self discovery, and I love how the songs grew and changed as I did over the course of writing this EP. I found out so much about myself and the sound I’m carving into the industry in the process of making it, and now it’s here for everyone to listen and hopefully feel the growth that I did. I worked closely with 2 good friends, Harry Winks and Sam Ellwood, and we started to make this EP in the comfort of our own homes. I’m now working in studios with writers and I’m starting to really feel like the artist I dream to be, but this EP will forever mark such a place in my heart as where this journey began for me!”
