ALT-POP SINGER-SONGWRITER’S DEBUT ALBUM WITH A LIGHTNING STRIKE OUT NOW

“[On the ‘River’ music video] The atmosphere created by the visuals fits perfectly with the dreamy vibe of the song – AMERICAN SONGWRITER

“I wrote River last year when I was living in New Orleans and feeling disconnected from home and myself. I wanted to make something that felt comforting and recentering, making light of the emptiness I was experiencing. It started off as a chanty campfire song but became a lot swaggier when my co-producers and I added a beat. My creative director and best friend, Abbie Pitre, came up with the music video concept and directed while our friend Robin Glass was the cinematographer. We worked with a few gaffers and a producer, but the video was mainly created by Robin, Abbie and me. It’s heavily inspired by the movie The Lighthouse as well as the tower card in tarot.” – Genevieve Stokes

With A Lightning Strike marks a darker, more intimate take on Genevieve’s creative search for childhood whimsy than her previous releases. Though largely recorded in Los Angeles with Berg, the Portland, ME native also returned to her beloved hometown in order to best capture the vibrancy she had been seeking, working alongside friends including drummer Fiona Stocks-Lyons and music director Pete Cafarella, who plays synth and bass on the album.

Currently boasting over 1.3M monthly listeners on Spotify, Stokes first heralded With A Lightning Strike this summer with the euphoric “Dreamer,”. Named by Rolling Stone to its weekly “Songs You Need to Know” playlist and hailed by PAPER in its “10 Songs You Need To Hear Now” as “ambling, ‘70s-inflected pop from Genevieve Stokes, whose earthy voice perfect suits this kind of production,” the track is paired with an idyllic visual capturing the feeling of summer’s end with family and friends in Stokes’ deeply treasured Maine – Watch HERE. Further highlights include “Desert Eagle,” “Amusing,” “Mean Guy,” and the album’s contemplative keystone, “God,” the latter described by Stokes as the “hangover of emotions when you accept the meaninglessness of life.” All four tracks are joined by official visualizers streaming now at YouTube HERE.

Having previously supported artists including Noah Kahan, Briston MaroneySarah Kinsley, and Charlie Burg, Stokes celebrated the long awaited arrival of With A Lightning Strike on her biggest North American headline run to date, concluding last night with a triumphant finale at West Hollywood, CA’s historic Troubadour. Additional dates will be announced soon. For updates, please visit www.genevievestokes.com/tour.
