070 Shake announces her highly-anticipated new album Petrichor due November 15th. The announcement is paired with the first official single from the album “Winter Baby / New Jersey Blues” and an accompanying Bennett Watanabe-directed music video starring 070 Shake and Lily-Rose Depp. Produced by Dave Hamelin (Beyoncé, King Princess), Tyler Johnson (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus) and Patrick Krief (The Dears), this latest offering not only highlights Shake’s ability to meld her influences into genre-bending anthems but provides a glimpse into her fatal vision of desire, which informs the ethos of Petrichor

The album’s title Petrichor is a term used to describe the smell of rain on arid soil after a long period of dry weather. “Petrichor is a feeling” Shake added in her Cultured Magazine cover story this summer “it’s the perfect word to describe this body of music.” Pulling inspiration from Wong Kar-Wai’s 1995 neo-noir film Fallen Angels and Gaspar Noe’s 2018 psychological horror film Climax, the visual offering plays into the 1950s jukebox pop feel of “Winter Baby” before transitioning to its more contemporary twin “New Jersey Blues” with the incorporation of distorted 808 bass. With Lily-Rose in the role of a classic femme fatale and Shake as her elusive love interest, they defy the public’s judgment and deliriously pursue each other like rebels to the world, setting the stage for Shake’s forthcoming gothic epic.

Executive produced by Shake and longtime collaborator Dave Hamelin, Petrichor is Shake at her boldest and most intimate yet. Acoustic guitars, ornate piano passages, ominous synths, dembow and hip-hop rhythms, with a dash of psychedelia — there is no other artist who could have made this album.

Since her first release in 2016, the New Jersey native has become known for her emotional vocal delivery and futuristic production, combining elements of hip-hop, pop and electronic. Shake released her critically acclaimed debut album Modus Vivendi in 2020, followed by You Can’t Kill Me in 2022. In 2023, she appeared on RAYE’s hit single “Escapism,” which hit No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and went double platinum in the US and multiple other countries. Petrichor promises to be an ambitious step forward for the artist, exposing the most intimate parts of her heart and incorporating rich orchestral arrangements and live piano, guitar and drums into her experimental sound palette.
