A melting pot of sounds underlined with lyrical intent from an unapologetic stance, Montreal’s trailblazing post-punk band distraction4ever unravel their highly anticipated album ‘Business Core’. In a sonic landscape filled with quick-fix music, the duo have constructed a conceptual album that speaks to a lost generation. A fine blend of industrial and grunge sounds, this unpredictable body of work explores the brutal reality of 9-5 jobs and its effect on the human experience.

Spread across 16 tracks that have been carefully crafted to tell a coherent story, ‘Business Core’ explores the never-ending cycle of those who feel trapped in a 9-5 job yet aspire to achieve or become something more meaningful. Weaving themes of disassociation, personal fulfilment, and overstimulation throughout the album, distraction4ever intend to encourage their listeners to follow their passions, seek authentic meaning and recognize the validity of their feelings of malaise and loss of meaning. Proposing an alternative to traditional success, the duo advocate for a rebellion against the status quo.

Opening the album with pre-released single you’re an actor, a raw and unfiltered take the suffocating reality of a 9-5 job, distraction4ever emphasise alienation in your own skin through a roaring punk anthem. Following suit in “belong (another place)”, tracks like “dopamine” and “fireball” explore the endless quest for satisfaction and the dangers of overstimulation. Enlisting Carlo Karacho for “a brick on my head” and Spookystack for “shitty service”, the pair offer a varying perspective adding further depth to this societal and politically lead album. Boasting their artistic prowess through blistering guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, and their signature fiery vocals, distraction4ever have produced an album that evokes change, proving that their more than just a band. Closing out the album with “5a7” alongside fish narc [gothboiclique], the infectious melodies and distorted vocals sit centre stage before swiftly moving into the head-bopping sounds of “nouvelle vie” and “i won’t lose my mind”, a powerful declaration of resilience against the pressures of the modern-day world. distraction4ever are a movement for the lost generation, rightfully embodying the use of punk music from previous decades.

When asked about the intentions behind the album, distraction4ever explained, “Business Core is a concept album that offers an incisive critique of modern work culture. The album explores this reality through tracks that capture the constant technological fatigue, the dehumanizing effects of routine and mental fog caused by an environment saturated with distractions. Dissociation is a recurring theme, reflecting how many feel disconnected from their own lives, endlessly chasing money without ever finding true meaning or lasting satisfaction.”

Housing previous support from METAL MAGAZINE, ONES TO WATCH and WONDERLAND, alongside playlisting from Spotify in ‘Montreal Chill’, Fresh Finds Indie’, ‘All New Punk’, ‘Darkwave’, ‘Outlers’, ‘Hometapking’, ‘Lo-Fi Indie’, ‘Melomania’, ‘Unleached’, ‘Undercurrents’ and many more, Montreal’s reputed Shift Radio station will be playing through the album on October 4th for all to hear.

distraction4ever, made up of members Beau Geste and Slipshift made their debut in 2022. The trailblazing duo are best known for ingenious melodies, captivating production and effortless ability to switch their lyrics from English to French, adding a unique bilingual edge to their punk sound. Based in Montreal, the pair have accumulated a cult-like following from their modern post punk sound. Recently shutting down the mainstage at Palomosa [The Dare, horsegiirL & Shygirl] and captured by SSENSE, the boys also took to POP! [Los Bitchos, Faux Real, claire rousay] in Montreal for an electrifying performance. Throwing “rave-style” release parties in both Montreal and Toronto for the albums release, distraction4ever are reputed for their one-of-a-kind performances, whether it’s in a packed, sweaty basement show or on a bigger stage, everyone in the room leaves transformed.
