The Manchester-born singer-songwriter releases her captivating ‘Self Sabotage’ EP, featuring the previously-unheard emotionally-charged final track ‘Remember Me’, marking her original music debut
Lusaint’s eagerly-awaited compelling ‘Self Sabotage’ debut EP has arrived, along with the incredible ‘Remember Me’, the sixth and final track from the release.
The EP, produced by Blue May (Joy Crookes, Kano, George Fitzgerald), includes ‘Dark Horse‘, a track ‘brimming with emotional resonance and raw honesty’, says Wonderland Magazine. It’s about “a past relationship that fell apart unexpectedly”, explains Lusaint, and was written with the legendary Eg White (Adele, P!nk, Florence and the Machine).
Also on the release is the upbeat jazz-infused ‘Fool For You‘, which has racked up over 1 million streams, 140,000 Shazam’s globally, received support from BBC Radio 1’s Victoria Jane and in Italy, reached #31 on the Top 100 Shazam Chart and #41 on the Italian National Radio Airplay chart. There’s the floating and introspective ‘Dream Life‘, ‘Sweet Tooth‘, which compares love to sugar addiction, and ‘Sober’, a song which explores the complex nature of letting go of a toxic relationship.
“Self Sabotage was written at a time in my life when I was feeling a little vulnerable, and the journey towards my next steps was unclear,” explains Lusaint. “I wanted to explore every small detail that was creating those problems and solve them through lyrics and melody. After creating a few voice notes on my phone and singing melodies that were slightly outside of my comfort zone, yet fell so naturally, ‘Self Sabotage’ was born and the dots quickly started to connect.”
‘Remember Me’, is the final twist in the tale of this compelling narrative. It’s an unrelenting Bond-esque cinematic showstopper, fittingly rounding off proceedings with explosions of Shirley Bassey-style brass and dramatic violin strings.
“‘Remember Me’ is very much about a person realising what they had now it’s gone,” Lusaint says on the track. “The whole story is about those memories you created over a long period, and just how quickly they can be taken from you. Like all of my songs from the Self Sabotage EP, it not only stands for relationships but everything in your life. I love the fact that everybody can take their own meaning from the lyrics.”
Hailed by Notion Magazine as an “overnight success”, Lusaint’s distinctive blend of pop, soul and jazz is turning heads. With over 70M streams under her belt and regular radio support from BBC Introducing Manchester and BBC Radio 1, she’s solidified her place as one of the UK’s most promising singer-songwriters. February’s single ‘Sweet Tooth’ soared to over 3M streams globally and received widespread acclaim, including support from Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri and Maia Beth, and a feature on Elton John’s Rocket Hour.
Lusaint’s recent singles have also caused a flurry of early interest in France, with plays on radio stations Europe 2, Radio Nova, RTL, Scoop, and NRJ Pop, aswell as a TV appearance. In March this year, she performed ‘Sweet Tooth’ on popular music TV show, ‘Taratata’, with the track immediately entering France’s Spotify Top 100 viral charts at #81, reaching #8 in the country’s Shazam Discovery Chart and #81 in the Shazam Top 100.
Hailing from Stretford, Greater Manchester, Lusaint discovered her exceptional vocal talent early, drawing inspiration from soul legends such as Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone. Her breakthrough came in 2019 with a stripped-back emotional cover of En Vogue’s ‘Don’t Let Go’, entitled ‘More Than Friends’, which catapulted her into the spotlight as the most Shazamed song in the UK for a day, with over 45,000 Shazams and a No. 1 in the UK Shazam Charts. Since this pivotal release, Lusaint has been featured on the melodic techno track ‘Find Out Who We Are’ with Franky Wah and she’s amassed over 50M streams self-releasing slower, heartfelt acoustic versions of well-known tracks such as Kings Of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’, ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz and Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ – a YouTube-posted music video that’s reached 20M views.
In the Summer of 2023, Lusaint took her first step into performing her music live for the first time, taking the stage in UK such as the iconic Troubadour in London, and Soup Kitchen in Manchester. She was also invited to perform a special private show in April 2023 for high-end fashion brand Dior at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. Following this, she was invited to Chanel’s invite-only Manchester Fashion Show event, where Lusaint was styled head to toe by the iconic brand.
Lusaint is on the road until November with shows across the UK and Europe, having performed at London’s Lower Third venue for BBC Introducing supporting JC Stewart, and Manchester’s iconic Band On The Wall venue in July. In June, she shared the stage with RAYE and Tom Grennan at Prague’s Metronome Festival, and has supported well-known names such as Jess Glynne.
On the ‘Self Sabotage’ EP, out now on new indie imprint Heavenly Fire, Lusaint tells the world her own stories with her voice for the first time.
