Known for his futuristic blend of DnB, electro and rock – which he memorably coined as “hyper-rock” – the rising singer-songwriter is continuing to defy genre with the innovative sounds – Gay Times
“Synergising nostalgic riffs with forward-thinking melodies, the result is Keates’ very own brand of hyper-rock” – Music Week
Receiving support from Gay Times and Kerrang! for his July release “EASY”, who praised his creative prowess and ability to push conventional sounds, montykeates, the Gen-Z trailblazer is back with his latest hyper-rock anthem “WORTH LESS”. Taking the music industry by storm with his growing fanbase and unrivalled artistry, montykeates continues to solidify his one-to-watch status with his high octane music.
With only a handful of releases behind him, it’s safe to say montykeates has made quite the entrance. Staying true to his authenticity, “WORTH LESS” is a liberating anthem for anyone navigating their worth in modern-day dating. Letting things slide, we can often find ourselves in situationships that aren’t representative of our worth but ironically, can be difficult to call quits. Exploring feelings of frustration and disappointment, montykeates articulates these emotions entirely, building a bridge of relatability through candid lyricism with his audience. Housing an electrifying production, his distinct vocals and awakening penmanship mould into an irresistible listen that’s pounding with substance.
Speaking on the meaning behind the single, montykeates explained,“The other side of the coin to my last single, ‘EASY’. ‘WORTH LESS’ is all about keeping someone around. In the age of situationships it’s difficult to know where we stand and when we should leave. I wrote this song from a time where there was no love in my life. It wasn’t worthless but it was definitely worth less. I thought that it was as much as I deserved.”
Accumulating support from Gay Times, Wonderland Magazine, Kerrang!, The Line of Best Fit, Why Now, Euphoria, Ones To Watch, Music Week, Apple Music’s ‘New In Alternative’ and ‘The New Rock’, as well as Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds UK & IE’ playlists and more. Not to mention, attending his local BBC Introducing Radio as their ‘Featured Artist’, montykeates was invited to the side stage to watch Thirty Second To Mars at the O2 in London where he was asked to join the band for their final song. The release of “Lose My Head” was celebrated with a 200-capacity sold-out launch party nestled in East London, Shoreditch at 93 Feet East. Continuing to build significant momentum with each release, “WORTH LESS” is another stand-out single from the newcomer.
As a person, montykeates offers a nuanced self-description: an individual who is inherently reticent yet profoundly compassionate, with a penchant for employing humour as an armour of defence. Through his musical endeavours, he embarks on a transformative journey—one that entails discarding these protective masks and embracing the full spectrum of his emotions. This voyage paves the way for a journey of self-discovery and healing.
