The rising Swedish teen star’s sophomore EP is an introspective ode to adolescence
17 year old rising Swedish star Ella Tiritiello delves into the trials and tribulations of adolescence on her brand new EP, ‘Younger’, releasing via Northbound Stockholm today.
An honest project that explores the turbulence of growing up, ‘Younger’ reflects the ups and downs Ella has experienced during her teenage years: falling in love for the first time, first heartbreak, anxiety, happiness, and the journey to finding your own path and who you are.
“Being a teen artist is a special experience, and I think that it contributes even more to the ups and downs a “normal” teenager can feel,” explains Ella. “One second I feel total euphoria, and the other I feel anxious and insecure. It’s a lot of different feelings all the time. And that’s also what I want to show with ‘Younger’, everything goes up and down and that’s okay.”
Lead single ‘I’m His, He’s Mine’ is a melancholic pop song that tells the story of the heartache that can arise from a broken love, and features the young star’s stunning vocals in full force – her talent for tender storytelling underpinned by shimmering production.
Elsewhere, the EP delves into other relatable themes including anxiety, as previously released single and titular track ‘Younger’ sees Ella reflecting on the ambivalence of growing up and some of the struggles today’s teenagers go through – something she believes many can relate to with their own experiences.
Speaking more about the experience of releasing her first song at 14 years old, a version of Avicii’s ‘For A Better Day’ with Tim Bergling Foundation for their mental health initiative ‘Together For A Better Day’, Ella says:
“I went from being a small town girl who’d never let anyone hear me sing, not even my family, to all of a sudden being in the spotlight and a part of an industry I knew nothing about. It’s a new reality to which I’m still adjusting. It has given me a lot of joy, but also anxiety. Anxiety about being in the public eye and showing up my work, in risk of being judged. But I’m also extremely grateful for this experience and the doors that have opened for me.”
Ella Tiritiello, at only 17 years old, has with her short career by far been thrown into the deep end and come out afloat. Her debut performance in 2021 was an extraordinary tribute to the late Avicii featuring The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Ella was chosen to sing Avicii’s ‘For A Better Day’ on top of the iconic Globe, renamed Avicii Arena. Since then she’s been invited to perform at many prestigious events including being re-invited to perform at the Avicii Tribute Concert in the arena alongside Zara Larsson, invited by Nile Rodgers to perform at ‘We Are Family Foundation’, as well as the ‘Brilliant Minds’ tech conference, hosting well-known guests such as Alicia Keys.
Ella debuted her first single ‘Say Something’ on stage at Swedish TV show ‘Allsång På Skansen’ and was invited to perform at The Royal Palace on behalf of the Swedish king. She released her debut EP ‘20the youth, emotions and everything in between‘ in 2023, and now kicks off 2024 with the release of her sophomore EP, produced by Johan Lindbrandt (Kygo, Sam Feldt, Veronica Maggio). In another exciting new venture she has been cast in a new film about the classic Swedish pop band Gyllene Tider. Ella will play a young Marie Fredriksson (Roxette), and it will be released in Swedish cinemas this summer. Watch the trailer here.
The release of ‘Younger’ leaves no doubt that Ella Tiritiello is an artist with wisdom and talent beyond her years. Kicking off 2024 in style, it will be a joy to watch her star continue to rise.
