With their fearless fusion of Metal, Rap, Electronic and Operatic modalities, Nyrobi (19yrs) and Chaya (16yrs) have spent the last 18mths crafting their unique sound through the release of ten singles before embarking on this, their debut EP project ‘Freak Show’.
Nothing appears to be off limits for these siblings as they use this EP to explore the battles faced by those who live unconventional lives through their highly unconventional approach to music.
Each song demands from the listener, a different level of understanding. The EP addresses fears, hopes and the remembrance of souls lost to the pressures of social conformity. It is also a defiant celebration of the here & now and urges us to accept and embrace the young Alternatives who are yet to rise.
I’m Normally Like This
A push back against the ‘Normies’ and the gatekeeping ‘Alties’ who have dared to tell the girls that they don’t belong. The clever combination of EDM and Metal work to produce a rousing composition.
Misfits : SOLAR
This track comes from a place of strength as the girls unapologetically root themselves in the ALT community. The track is a call for unity, encouraging Misfits and their allies to make noise, to ensure they are seen and most definitely heard. The girls merge Rock, Electronica & Scream Rap to create an energy burst of sound.
Freak Show
Perfectly embodying the Solar and Lunar styles of ALT BLK ERA, ‘Freak Show’ is about living life to the fullest, regardless of the perception of others. The song provides a feast of Trumpets, Trap Drums, Rock Guitars, Heavy Bass, and a marry between beautiful Harmonies and Scream Rap. Very on brand for these two genre-bending sisters.
Oggy
Perfectly combining a well known chant with hard Rock Guitar and Trap Drums, this rallying cry again works to unite the outcasts, misfits, freaks and rebels. With it’s super energised hook -it is the perfect song to experience live.
Overall, this debut EP is a strong statement that when there appears to be no room at the table, the girls will bring their own and will invite others who have also felt the pain of rejection, to be seated them. The girls are not only song writers but social advocates, building safe spaces for those who live and think outside of the norm.
Nyrobi states: “Being misunderstood, rejected and neglected is hurtful reality for too many of us which can leave deep life-long scars. We wanted to create music that the Misfits & Rebels could feel empowered by. This EP is about building a community where we’re seen, heard and
appreciated in all of our forms“
Chaya adds “It’s what we wish we had growing up and maybe through our musical stories we can inspire other young & elder ALTs to live freely and feel less alone”
