NEW EDITION, JOYFUL REBEL LION+ DROPPING OCTOBER 18

FEATURES UNRELEASESD TRACK, “SAME OLEY

On the album’s 20th anniversary, award-winning alternative rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer k-os announces the reimagined version of his platinum-certified second studio album Joyful Rebellion, newly titled, Joyful Rebel Lion+, out October 18th via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.  The re-issue will be available digitally and as a 2LP Vinyl edition with a Burgundy Red Vinyl pressing, plus 4 exclusive bonus tracks including the unreleased track “Same Oley” out now.

Joyful Rebellion, k-os second album, was originally released on August 13, 2004, in Canada, September 21, 20024, United States and globally and achieved Platinum status in Canada. Joyful Rebellion also earned k-os 3x Juno Awards and attracted internationally acclaim including praise from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. The album featured a total of six singles including the international hit “Crabbuckit”, “B-Boy Stance”, “Man I Used to Be”, “The Love Song”, “Crucial” and “Dirty Water”. “Crabbuckit” was also awarded “Best Pop Video” at the MuchMusic Video Awards along with “Best Songwriter” and “Fan Choice Award” at the 2005 Canadian Urban Music Awards.

Reflecting on the 20th anniversary on both the iconic album, and the re-issue, k-os says, “Rebellion is always a tricky form of employment because we all need the conflict, we disdain to exist for us to rebel against it. That’s when my philosophy nerd friends and I at York University started saying we were ‘Rebel Lyin’ meaning the antidote is always in the venom. I took that a step further by wanting to call the record Joyful Rebel-Lion so I could cover all my yin yang bases but was fiscally convinced out of doing so. I’m glad I listened. However, it’s time to let the cat outta the bag… it’s Rebel Lion, and now that same cat’s got my tongue forever.”

Expanding on the original release, this new edition includes four new unreleased bonus tracks, along with a rare previously released cover version of The Police track “The Bed’s Too Big Without You (Radio Edit)”, an unreleased mix of the track that was previously out as a bonus included on the “Crabbuckit” CD-single. Additionally, included is an Acappella version of “Neutroniks” and a previously released track “Funky Country (Drive With Her To The Yukon)” only included as a bonus track on the international version of Atlantis.

Stay tuned for lots more from k-os in throughout 2024 and into next year, including a new studio album executive produced by GRAMMY Award winning multiplatinum artist Drake.
